D2 is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel. Because it is packed with massive, hard vanadium and chromium carbides, it boasts incredible wear resistance. As a result you spend more time working and way less time sharpening.

2. The Chemistry of D2 Steel

D2 is not a basic stainless steel but a premium version ( D2 Steel has about 11.5% to 13% chromium, and Standard Stainless generally has 13% or 14% chromium).
